Our senior adults and volunteers are needed and valued.

Adults are living longer and have special needs as they enter their mature years; most wish to live independently, enrich their lives and experience new and meaningful relationships. With this in mind, the first Shepherd's Center was created in 1972 in Kansas City, Missouri, and was among the early voices in America to advocate a new model of aging -- a model that opened up 25 to 35 additional years for creative living. Today, there are 75 centers in 21 states affiliated with the Shepherd’s Centers of America (SCA) - a network of interfaith community-based organizations that provide meaning and purpose for senior adults.

We help seniors enrich their lives in a world of possibilities.

Shepherd’s Centers provide services through interfaith partnerships and the community at large. The vision is that individuals will experience meaningful lives through all phases of their mature years. The volunteers – of all ages - provide in-home and community based services for their neighbors. Our Shepherd’s Center volunteers strive to:
  • Enhance life satisfaction through caring relationships and lifelong learning
  • Help clients develop and express creativity and discover their inner self
  • Provide opportunities for older persons to use their experience, training, and skills in significant roles in society
  • Help to build and strengthen an interfaith community coalition
  • Develop new approaches that will contribute to quality aging
